Stephanie Fan grew up in Boston’s Chinatown and attended Boston’s public schools before studying for her bachelor's degree at Tufts University. Following her graduation, she worked at MIT’s Political Science Department, as a research associate looking at Chinese American identity issues. During that time, she became involved with the founding of what is now known as the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and was also active in other neighborhood organizations, including one advocating for the return of a branch library in Chinatown. Currently, she is a board member of the Chinese Historical Society of New England. Stephanie has been a Brookline resident for over 50 years. Both her children attended the Baker School and Brookline High School where she served on the parent advisory group of Packard House. One grandchild is now at Brookline HS, another at Washington Sq. Academy. Stephanie was also active in helping organize an Asian American parents group to advocate for more Asian American teachers in the school system in the 1980s. In addition, she served on the board of the Brookline Education Foundation
