BAAFN Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is BAAFN's mission?
BAAFN was formed to support the needs of  Asian/Asian American students and their families in the Brookline Public School system.

Is BAAFN a nonprofit?
BAAFN is currently an unincorporated association.  We are looking into getting incorporated and obtaining nonprofit
status.  Until we do so, contributions to BAAFN are not tax deductible.

Who can join BAAFN?
Anyone who supports BAAFN can join. Our members primarily consist of parents of Asian/Asian American students in the Brookline school system, including parents of adoptees and bi-racial students.

Is there a membership fee?
Currently there is no membership fee.  BAAFN organizers will occasionally ask for contributions to cover the out-of-pocket costs of events, or as a fundraiser.

What is the BAAFN list serve?
BAAFN primarily communicates through a google list serve. All members of BAAFN are added to the BAAFN list serve.

How do I get added to the BAAFN list serve?
The BAAFN list serve administrator is Chi Chi Wu.  Email her at chichiwu  at  hotmail.com with your request to be added.

How do I post emails to the BAAFN list serve?
All list serve members can post emails to the BAAFN list serve. The list serve is set up so you  don't have to go through a moderator.
Just email baafn@googlegroups.com

What can I post to the BAAFN listserve?
All posts to the BAAFN listserve should be relevant to the mission of supporting Asian/Asian Pacific American students in the Brookline school system. We ask that you respect the following rules:
        -  Listserve postings should be civil, not intentionally offensive or use obscenities/foul language. We reserve
the right to immediately suspend or remove those who use abusive language without even a first warning.

         - Postings should relate to the mission of BAAFN. While occasionally off topic posts are not prohibited,
do not engage in excessive or irrelevant chatter.

         - Do not post negative personal comments about other listserve partipicants.
Do not post anything that could be considered racist, sexist or similarly offensive.

        - If a listserve moderator asks participants to stop a discussion - STOP!  Do not add additional fuel to the fire.

These  rules are merely preventative. Fortunately, we have never had an incident which  required enforcement of these rules. It's been a very civil and low-key list serve and we hope you find it useful.

Can I get a digest version or web only access to the BAAFN list serve?
Yes.  The google list serve system does support digest version and web-only access.
However, so far there has been very light traffic on the BAAFN list serve, so you may not find it necessary if your concern is volume of emails.

Any more questions? Email chichiwu  at  hotmail.com
